About this artwork
Carnival originated from photographs I took that were printed on canvas. I was interested in the original pagan ideas around carnival and celebration, and the mockery of authority and refuting of everyday rules. I was particularly interested in how the pagans adorned themselves with elements of animals bodies and faces, and how this morphed in to humans wearing masks and taking on other guises. The film The Wicker Man and the Jack o' the Green ritual…
also inspired.
