About this artwork
Psychiatric research by one Alexander G Schauss in 1970s America revealed that exposing men to a blancmange shade of pink had the same effect as giving Samson a buzzcut: it made them physically weaker and less aggressive. Two commanding officers at the US Navy Correctional Centre in Seattle, Washington, saw this research and promptly painted one of their holding cells bright salmon. Violence plummeted. Dr Paul Boccumini of the Youth Centre in San… Bernadino had to reduce youths exposure to 'Baker-Miller' pink (named after the commanding officers) because youngsters became 'too weak´. Later research contradicted the idea that exposure to pink made men go weak at the knees but did find various effects on blood pressure, cognition and mood. Nevertheless with the pink-infused film 'Barbie' taking over the world there can be no doubt that violence against the person will end, wars will cease and all men will embrace embroidery and synchronized swimming very very soon.

Steve White, a painter based in the Netherlands, has extensively exhibited his works nationally, as well as in the United Kingdom. While he appreciates that art can stir emotions and have great meaning for people, he has a more practical approach to creation. For example, one of the tests he does for his own works is simple - he asks himself, "Would this look good over someone's sofa?". White's abstract realist compositions also combine elements of minimalism.
