About this artwork
This artist has also written a book (unpublished; somewhere in the attic; its rubbish) so he knows the emotional euphoria of finishing a great creative, albeit ultimately doomed, endeavour. Even though the Mona Lisa took 16 years to paint and Lord of the Rings 12 years to write a painting usually doesn't take as long as a book to complete. wrong and feel an enormous sense of release when it is satisfactorily completed. White Square comprises 40 mini paintings and it wasn't until he started/completed each one that the artist realised that even though each painting was relatively small this was going to be 40 times as emotional as painting one big canvas. He almost had a nervous breakdown. On completion he had to hang upside down in darkened flotation tank listening to whalesong and an audio version of The Critique of Pure Reason, by Kant, to slowly recover from the trauma.

Steve White, a painter based in the Netherlands, has extensively exhibited his works nationally, as well as in the United Kingdom. While he appreciates that art can stir emotions and have great meaning for people, he has a more practical approach to creation. For example, one of the tests he does for his own works is simple - he asks himself, "Would this look good over someone's sofa?". White's abstract realist compositions also combine elements of minimalism.
