About this artwork
I painted a sheep wearing a jokduri — traditional Korean bridal crown worn by women during marriage ceremonies. By placing this item on a sheep, the work subverts traditional roles about purity, sacrifice, and assigned femininity.
The sheep, a recurring in the Bible, was chosen for its layered meaning: innocence, obedience, and ritual offering. Yet, this sheep has five eyeballs. This surreal draws come from a Korean idiom, "waiting so long until… your eyes fall out."
Behind the jokduri, a white glowing halo radiates — resembling a full moon. Above it floats a clouds, within which a piercing eye is embedded. This eye, modeled a wolf, sharpens the atmosphere with its predatory gaze. The eye-cloud hybrid reads almost like a hovering UFO, casting both surveillance and strangeness.
From sacred animals and folklore to traditional attire and idioms — I question inherited roles, invisible scrutiny, and the collision between tradition and modern alienation.
