About this artwork
This early work (2003) explores space, layering, and atmosphere. Muted, cool color fields contrast with a luminous, warm zone that resembles a distant horizon. Through overlays and subtle transitions, a quiet, open pictorial space emerges, poised between abstraction and memory.
Sultana Savvi is a contemporary painter whose work explores the atmospheric and emotional presence of landscape. Situated between abstraction and memory, her paintings engage with horizon, space, and color as vehicles of mood and perception. Through multifaceted processes, she creates quiet, open compositions that allow room for reflection and individual interpretation.
Her practice is characterized by an interest in transitions—between presence and distance, closeness and vastness. Through painting, she translates inner experiences into fields of color and spatial atmospheres, created through layers, superimpositions, and a play of condensation and dissolution.
Born in Greece, Savvi lives and works in Zurich. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Art Education from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and a Master's degree from the Zurich University of Teacher Education. Her work is held in private and institutional collections.
