About this artwork
The work emerged from an intense dialogue with friends about the existential experiences of war: fear, powerlessness, grief – but also the quiet, often fragile hope for a new tomorrow. It invites the viewer to enter this moment of pause – that silent in-between space where everything seems possible: end and beginning at once.
For the houses, rockets, and flying objects, I used pages from an old encyclopedia. While working on the pages, thoughts… like longing for the familiar came to mind – What will remain of order if the rockets hit? – Are the rockets duds, serving only as a deterrent? – If the rockets hit, will there be a new beginning for humanity? Can the Earth still be saved? – Must we humans take to the streets again and demonstrate for peace? Is this our salvation? We still have hope and confidence, don't we?
