When I create a Punksture, a painting or a sculpture, I proceed in a very instinctive way even if I am always guided by the idea that our civilization is on the decline and that Nature will gradually regain all its rights. Hope is then allowed to live in a world where everything would be in harmony: Nature, animals and humans would then be part of one and the same WHOLE.
To create "Oversized Ego" I used recycled cardboard that I used to build this… rather geometric structure, which represents that of a city, probably abandoned and which cracks and abandons itself. It does not oppose any resistance and lets itself be covered by this nature full of strength (symbolized by the eggshell) so that they become one.
Sylvie BERTON, self-taught artist, is fascinated by the way nature reclaims its rights over our civilization and it is this idea that we find mainly in all her works (paintings and sculptures). Recycling is an integral part of her work and to highlight her ideas she uses used packaging boxes, bottle caps, coffee grounds and all kinds of shells...but it is especially the eggshell that is omnipresent in her works because she is fascinated by its symbolism: at the same time at the origin of everything, the egg is also a representation of chaos (cycle of death and rebirth, destruction and reconstruction). Despite the sad observation that no civilization is eternal, Sylvie Berton remains positive and firmly believes that things can change by respecting our environment and keeping in mind that we are all part of the same whole.
