About this artwork
In this Smoke series, plumes of smoke intrude, representing the existential doubts that each of us is led to encounter in our lives. Guilt is one of the heaviest burdens we have to bear. It weighs on our shoulders to the point that, sometimes, it prevents us from moving forward. What if we tried from now on to no longer regret the choices we have made, and if we started to love the decisions we have made? And if we finally managed to love ourselves… in our entirety (for our qualities as well as for what we call faults but which are not in fact)? Life would certainly be much sweeter. Recycling being an integral part of my work, you will find in this canvas eggshells, sand... which gives it a lot of relief. The canvas is also a recycled canvas. The places where you see blue represent the hope of finally being appeased one day. Signature at the bottom right
Sylvie BERTON, self-taught artist, is fascinated by the way nature reclaims its rights over our civilization and it is this idea that we find mainly in all her works (paintings and sculptures). Recycling is an integral part of her work and to highlight her ideas she uses used packaging boxes, bottle caps, coffee grounds and all kinds of shells...but it is especially the eggshell that is omnipresent in her works because she is fascinated by its symbolism: at the same time at the origin of everything, the egg is also a representation of chaos (cycle of death and rebirth, destruction and reconstruction). Despite the sad observation that no civilization is eternal, Sylvie Berton remains positive and firmly believes that things can change by respecting our environment and keeping in mind that we are all part of the same whole.
