About this artwork
I grew up doing historical reenactments of the 16th century and 19th centuries. Nothing made history more real than a full immersive experience like camping out in nature in canvas tents, miles from modern conveniences. This encampment was in Oregon, USA and a heavy storm had just rolled over the camp. As the people peeled back the soaked canvas and emerged into the meadow, the colors of the sunset gave a dramatic backdrop over our temporary homes.…
The air was fresh with the damp earth and greenery and drifting smoke from cooking fires that had been sheltered from the drenching rain. The vibrant colors of the sky were amazing to capture in the rich medium of pastel.
