"House Protectors" is a series of etchings in embroidery frames. After the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, all the chimeras were still standing on the roof. They remained almost undamaged. Chimeras are stone sculptures that were often placed on buildings or churches. They were attached to the roofs for protection. Allegedly, the chimeras saved the cathedral from complete destruction. It's just a myth, of course, but perhaps there's some truth… to it?
A protective device that you can hang in your own house or apartment.
The work is bound in an embroidery frame, which could be placed on the wall, on a shelf or on the window.
Tania Mairitsch-Korte is a German artist and graduate designer who, since studying graphic design, has specialized in illustration and printmaking. Her work combines various printing techniques, such as etching and screen printing, with drawing to create flat shadows. Inspired by texts and poems, as well as operas, ballets, and mythological themes, her works convey a constant evolution, both in technique and in the expressiveness of her images.
