This piece began with a simple moment… standing in the presence of Multnomah Falls, taking it all in from the parking lot—no hiking, no rush—just observing.
What drew me in wasn’t just the waterfall itself, but the contrast.
The sky was soft… almost effortless.
But the mountains those were different. Strong. Layered. Full of character.
As I sketched, I leaned into that contrast.
I kept the sky smooth, letting it breathe… while slowly building… up the textures of the trees and the rugged rock facades.
Every mark in the mountains was intentional.
Every line in the rocks was about capturing that raw, natural strength.
And honestly, that became my favorite part.
There’s something deeply satisfying about creating texture with a pencil… watching flat paper start to feel alive, almost tangible.
This drawing isn’t just about a place.
It’s about what happens when you slow down long enough to really see it.
The richness. The contrast. The quiet power of nature.
