About this artwork
This painting was born after my son’s first trip to the zoo.
We stood there, watching the meerkats – small, curious, full of life – and I couldn’t stop smiling. There was something so human about the way they watched the world, so alert, so gentle, as if they understood more than we think.
When I came home, I knew I had to paint one. But not just any. I wanted to capture that one special gaze – the kind that makes you pause and feel a quiet connection.…
It took time to find the right references and build the soul I wanted to show, but in the end, it became exactly what I hoped for:
a small creature with a big presence, soft but full of personality.
It reminds me of that day with my son – of wonder, innocence, and the joy of seeing the world with fresh eyes.
