About this artwork
This is a special one that I painted to take part in the exhibition Loki organized by the Museum Westerwolde who invited artists to make work incorporating some of the visual elements that where used by the painter Lodewijk Bruckman. If you are not familiar with the work of Lodewijk Bruckman then you can visit the museum here http://www.museumwesterwolde.nl
The painting is a bit of Lodewijk and a bit of Theo. The works of Lodewijk are much more realistic… than mine but I think I have found some common ground in the painting 'Regenscherm'. My girlfriend came up with the title 'Regenscherm' and the translation of Regenscherm is Umbrella or Brolly.

Theo Overgaauw, a Dutch painter and sculptor, works primarily with pastels and oil paint, drawing on a rich education from the Vrij Academie and a masterclass with Jörg Immendorff. He embraces expressive, loose techniques layered without preliminary sketches, often shifting styles and evoking a slightly macabre, surreal edge. His recent works confront the anxieties of war, ecological collapse, and mortality, using distorted figures and skulls to channel a profound sense of urgency, loss, and existential disquiet.
