About this artwork
With this sculpture, I explore the idea of a material that appears, as if revealed after a long period of burial.
Shaped from a terrazzo that I mix myself, the form appears as a mineral fragment extracted from an inner landscape. The colored layers, integrated into the mass, evoke a recomposed geology — a material that does not exist in its natural state but which retains its memory.
With its calm verticality and reduced base, the piece maintains… a discreet, almost silent balance. I sought a stable, unaffected presence, where the density of the material engages in a dialogue with the simplicity of the form.
Affleurage questions that moment when what was hidden becomes visible — when matter reveals itself and begins to occupy space.

Thomas Auzon, a self-taught sculptor, works exclusively with terrazzo, a material he creates himself from cement and marble aggregates, continuing his background in masonry. His works revolve around essential geometric forms, exploring balance, tension, and stability through a sensitive and structural approach. He thus creates strikingly mineral pieces, silent and timeless, conveying a profound and soothing emotion, inviting contemplation and a slow perception of material presence.
