About this artwork
A Man Walks Here. Thomas W. Dowdeswell. April 2021
Nature falls before me
To the sweet sound
Of the spring rain
Beneath the onset of close, grey clouds
My pulse increases
As I buckle up my battered shoes
To head outdoors into the familiar
Great, chaotic streets.
A Man Walks Here
Despite the odds,
Running
Along with
And quickly then
Against the grain
Straining with sideswept sweeping glances
Soaking in the spectacle
Of the bums, the beggars,… the fools, the false princes, the talkers
The trashers, the lost, the think-they’ve found…
…Something.
The bright metal-clad business people
In swish steel horses
But devoid of Real Ideas
With each pounding step
The shrill cry of these strangers voices diminishes
And falls by the wayside
Past the skate park
Past the market stalls
Down the pavements
Abandoning the rules of the
Green cross code
Dodging in and out of traffic
Underneath the underpass
Again, and again, and again
Nature falls before me
To the sweet sound
Of the spring rain
Beneath the onset of close, grey clouds
My pulse increases
As I buckle up my battered shoes
To head outdoors into the familiar
Great, chaotic streets.
