About this artwork
The staircase appears to be a transition—an ascent into light, even into the unknown. The strong contrast of light and dark creates an almost metaphysical tension: the lower steps are clear and tangible, while the goal blurs in the dazzling light. The image evokes thoughts of transformation, insight, or the pursuit of something higher.
The right side, with its railing, wall, and suggested natural elements (trees, fence), brings a certain grounding… to the image—as if the earthly and the transcendent coexist. The color palette of red, brown, and white tones enhances the emotional intensity and lends the work an almost surreal atmosphere.

Thomas Falkner is a self-taught photographer and digital artist with a journalistic background who creates his works through his own photographs, digital editing, and occasional use of AI. He explores hidden perspectives and structures in urban and natural spaces, creating images that encourage reflection, questioning, and the discovery of individual associations – full of depth, openness, and subtle irony.
