About this artwork
Freedom 2, in the sequel to "Freedom 1" undoubtedly reflects my desire to create meaning as much as a single abstract form, and to create a link with it. We find in a way here the fusion of many of my previous works and influences: works on the unconscious and in particular automatic writing, as escape from the sacrosanct precept of absolute rationality; the geometric rigor of the codes and rules imposed on us to better control us; a reminder of…
our primitive origins.
Originally from France, I have lived in Taiwan for several years. In order to honor my welcoming culture, I chose to work from traditional Chinese characters. The latter, at the origin of figurative representations, have not ceased to abstract themselves, retaining only their meaning, essence and symbolism. My work pursues this approach with a more contemporary approach if ever there was one.

« Torn between passion and reason, conscious and unconscious choices, I propose the question of how our choices are formed as individuals and citizens. »
Thomas Pourcelot Wonsungee is a French painter who has lived in countless cities around the world, including Taiwan, Riyad, Seoul and Beijing - all of which inform his artistic and societal vision.
