About this artwork
In ‘Histories of Stealth’, land, sea, and sky converge into a dreamlike threshold where gesture and myth coalesce. Lyrical bands of turquoise, jade, and ultramarine, transform the bay into a liminal world of colour and form. A half submerged coracle echos the archetypal journeyer caught between departure and return. The sea, rendered in a sweeping, faceted geometry, becomes a numinous field—mythic, pulsing, and sentient. The landforms are contours… of an inner terrain shaped by memory, tide, and time. A tree casts a blood-red shadow onto a hill shaped by longing or lament. Clouds are symbolic strata—layers of dream, atmosphere, ancestral memory. And hidden from view is the iconic Orca, drawn from mythic consciousness. Neither predator nor saviour, this ‘ruthless expatriate’ embodies a severed covenant. Its presence is felt in the sea’s lift, the land’s tremble, and the quiet withdrawal of ancestral forms. My painting is a work of elegant resistance - a secret kept in plain sight.
« I am an artist, pure and simple. I try to divide the cosmos with my hands. Happily, I speak to none, but everyone listens! »
Tillian is an award-winning artist based in Australia whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. He describes his artistic landscapes as visual narratives that trace passages in cyclical time and space. Through his works, Tillian explores themes related to anxiety, longing, and ecstatic recognition. In his artistic process, he favors using acrylics and gilding on wood. Tillian's practice bridges painting, mythopoetics, and ecological reflection. Deeply attuned to the natural and spiritual landscapes of the highland landscapes south of Sydney, Tillian often seeks to paint what resists depiction: the numinous, the mythic, the relational pulse between body and terrain. The artist synthesises elements of abstraction, post-symbolism, and visionary ecology to build a new visual lexicon of sacred land.
