About this artwork
Only at second glance do you recognize the petals of a red poppy. The red blossom unfolds against the black background and looks almost menacing. The oversized representation allows the subject to recede into the background and one is completely immersed in the colour. The red color, with its sprawling character, explodes the form and begins to leak at the edges. In this work, Tine Pockels seems to express her very idiosyncratic perception of red.

« With the brush I penetrate the surface of things and get to the essence. »
Tine Pockels is an award-winning German artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level. In her large-scale compositions, she portrays the beauty of everyday life. Pockels selects her subjects according to their color and structure, whereby the texture of the surfaces plays a vital role. While the objects she depicts lose part of their representational significance due to the close-up interpretation, they take on a new significance. For her, "objectivity ends here and abstraction begins".
