About this artwork
The idea for this painting originated while we were floating alongside an anchored pontoon boat, enjoying a glorious day at Table Rock Lake with good friends in the southwest corner of Missouri. Conversations drifted to, "What if there actually was a large table, made out of rock, in the middle of the lake?" I decided to make that happen and go really big with the "table rock". Going with the natural beauty of the lake, I decided to make the giant… rock slabs that make up the table as natural rock formations. The result is an epic 'table rock', made even more immense by the boats that are out on the lake which gives you an idea of scale. For those of you in Europe, Asia or other parts of the world who have never heard of Table Rock Lake in the middle of the USA, you might notice that the rock formation is actually a dolmen, which can be found in Ireland, Jordan and other parts of the world. I just made it on a massive scale!
« I love to paint the impossible, or at least the highly improbable. I want my work to make you think, if it brings a smile to your face, that's even better. »
Tom Blood is an award-winning American artist whose paintings have been exhibited in the United States. Inspired by surrealism, especially by the works of René Magritte, many of his paintings have featured a man in a bowler hat, which is part of his on-going homage to the Belgian master. Blood enjoys painting "what seemed like it couldn't be, only it looked like it actually was".
