About this artwork
All these human endeavors were proving to be temporary, some more intentionally than others. From the cutting of the canal through the rolling hills to the rough containers of sand taped up for target practice, some… measure of violence pervaded the space.
The picture dimensions are 47cm x 66cm with a 6cm border, permitting 1cm to facilitate framing, the intention being a 5cm border all around. The work is pigment printed on archive quality paper stock with zero optical brighteners.

Ireland
I was born in Dublin but have worked in the US for many years. I am now a photographer and film-maker, albeit with an extensive background in curation and art direction. I've produced three feature films and a number of shorts, but my principal medium is photography. I also pursue publishing, collaborating with poets and writers, in particular scientists.
I approach my subjects through a prolonged period of discovery, a journey through a landscape. I move forward on the basis of trust and eventually something emerges. I explore intimate landscapes, notably ritual sites or where the remains of humanity are present in various forms.
