About this artwork
In "Schwingung," a black marbled soapstone body meets a solid bog oak base. The organically curved shape of the soapstone conveys a tangible softness, reminiscent of gentle wave motion, despite the material's inherent hardness and coolness. The polished surface nevertheless radiates an unexpected warmth, almost as if it allows vibrations within the stone to be felt.
The contrast with the bog oak is clear: its rough, dark grain anchors the work… in the earth's history while simultaneously highlighting the smooth elegance of the soapstone. "Vibration" speaks of the tension between hardness and softness, the resonance of two materials, and the question of how form and surface trigger changing impressions in the viewer.
