About this artwork
The medium-sized work "Wherever" combines several elements of the artist's artistic work and gives the viewer scope to change their perspective.
The water, especially in the front of the picture, is flowing, wavy and draws the viewer right into the center of the work. It's something very dynamic and alive that gives the impression that it keeps flowing when you stop looking. In the background there are signs of a change of perspective: depending… on how you look at it - and maybe only at second glance - you can also discover a snow-covered mountain peak. The color associations seem rather cold, hostile to life and icy. Fog and clouds pass by a granite mountain - water in a different state of aggregation.
The work "Wherever" is painted in acrylic on canvas with a combination of spatula and brush. A very exciting picture!
« Water and cloud landscapes, concrete, and yet, abstract. Places of the longing. »
Ulrike Schmelter is an artist living in Berlin and on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, whose works are exhibited throughout Europe. Inspired by Romantic painting and its awareness of the uniqueness of nature, the artist intensely observes water, the sea, and nature. She visualizes her sensations in her expressive seascapes, abstract water paintings, and landscapes characterized by water—always without people. Schmelter's compositions depict the beauty of our earth and its landscapes, elevating water and the sea to the center of all existence, capturing moods and a "fascination with the moment." With her works, the artist sensitizes the viewer, reminding them of the fragility of the sea as an ecological system and water as a precious resource. Her primary media are acrylic on canvas.
