About this artwork
The setting for this image is a country road on the Danish island of Ærø. On a warm, sunny summer day I was watercoloring on the side of the path and a rabbit came into the picture. Later, this oil painting on wood was created in the studio based on the watercolor sketch and a photo as a reference. The picture with the bright blue of the water, the green bushes on the bend that cast their shadows on the sandy path, the resting hare, shows the moment…
of a peaceful, harmonious summer day. The view is of the sea with the wide sky. A longing for places beyond the distant horizon is awakened. My brushstrokes are expressive. I captured the light impressionistically. The picture carrier is a 5 cm wide wooden box. The edges are white. The suspension consists of a steel cable. The signature is on the front.

Ute Meyer is a German artist whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally, including in Denmark and the USA. She prefers to work outdoors and uses classic techniques of oil and watercolor painting. Her creative process is strongly influenced by changing weather conditions and lighting, which can either speed up or slow down her painting flow. She captures the special mood of the day in her pictures.
