About this artwork
For many years Ute Meyer traveled to the Shetland Islands to paint and photograph. She worked out there, right in the countryside. The island offers a wonderful light for painting and depending on the wind and weather the easel was set up. This picture was taken on a cloudy day in July. The white and magenta flowers of the dog roses can be seen in the foreground. The view is of the sea, which shines in light blue-grey. Behind the opposite bank, gently…
swaying chains of hills in brown-green tones rise up into the grey, cloud-covered sky. Working with brush and oil paint is quick and spontaneous to capture the mood of the moment. The picture is provided with a light wooden frame and a steel cable as a suspension.

Ute Meyer is a German artist whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally, including in Denmark and the USA. She prefers to work outdoors and uses classic techniques of oil and watercolor painting. Her creative process is strongly influenced by changing weather conditions and lighting, which can either speed up or slow down her painting flow. She captures the special mood of the day in her pictures.
In addition to plein air painting, Ute Meyer draws inspiration from her own photographs and everyday experiences, which she implements both abstractly and figuratively. Characteristic features of her works are clarity, liveliness, depth and breadth, which run like a common thread through her work.
