About this artwork
This sheet of paper is like a palimpsest. It seems as if it has been described several times, because further symbolic structures shimmer through the black characters on top, painted with ink and brush, and refer to a multi-layered ground consisting of different layers, puzzling, wide and thin as well as partially scratched lines a golden, ocher-colored layer of paint can be recognized. The center of strength of this work lies in the middle of the…
sheet. An open circle is crossed by a vertical line and a smaller horizontal line. Where vertical and horizontal intersect, we see a center and at the same time look through it into a world full of traces, into a world that is lost, into a world without a center.

« When I'm in the process, I do not think. I let the process guide me. »
The German artist Uwe Beyer, born in 1959, lives in Coswig, near Dresden, and in Düsseldorf. He studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (1988–1993). Uwe Beyer's paintings emerge more from mindfulness than from control. The material is allowed to move, resist, and settle. Form is not imposed but develops organically—stabilizing briefly before dissolving back into openness. Each work exists in a tension between presence and withdrawal, density and emptiness. It exists as a self-contained object while simultaneously eluding complete visibility. Instead of composing images, his practice creates the conditions for their emergence. These paintings do not represent the world.
They reveal the conditions under which form – and thus reality – comes into being. What remains is not an image, but a trace of becoming.
