About this artwork
She stood in front of this very large canvas after long time waiting for nice and dry weather so she could paint it outside after she realized a long time ago that could not get it into her studio because the staircase is too narrow. Of course it was a very nice day, pleasant to be outside full of light and the freshness of the spring. Because of the size she wanted to keep the colour combination subtle, light and more pastel like. She was more interested… in the variety of textures and layers. She had no name in her head just then and then this feather landed on her canvas, on a new freshly painted area. Her first reaction was to quickly pull of her gloves which were stuck on her hands…., but then she looked at it from a distance and she thought: Perfect! That is it! She continued working on the large painting FEATHER. It has its name and she couldn't think of any better.
« My works represent my instinctive colour theory and are a channel to my inner self. »
Vania Bouwmeester Pentcheva is an established Bulgarian artist based in the Netherlands who has exhibited her work nationally, as well as in South Africa. Moved and inspired by nature, including its presence in urban landscapes, she explores her emotions, memories and philosophical thoughts through the composition of abstract paintings full of dynamic shapes and colours. Textures and colours spontaneously arrive on the canvas, though structured layering is carefully thought out.
