About this artwork
Like so many artists before me, I have started my Tarot series with the characters from Major Arcana. I'm fascinated with the idea of a visual system for explaining our difficult universe and the strange patterns of human life.
All heroes from Major Arcana are strong archetypes who desire to be manifested by yet another artist. I feel like they are tellling me stories while I'm painting yet the narrative remains silent after I'm finished the painting.… These characters are excellent at keeping their secrets.
The teenage years are maybe the most difficult and solitary of our lifes. I have painted a young girl who has taken the hermit's habit and excluded herself in the desert of snow. Despite her solitude, she is guarded and surrounded by singing angels. I don't think she is aware of their presence. A butterfly comes to warm himself by her candle. May be he will burn his wings and die? Or maybe they will wait for the spring together?
