About this artwork
Life on the Baltic coast is peaceful—at least for five out of twelve months. During this short, precious time, the coast belongs to the locals once again. The promenades are quiet, and even the wind seems to blow more gently. The old building on the beach, whose windows reflect the murmur of visitors in summer, now appears bathed in soft watercolor light. A tranquility flickers among the shimmering autumn trees, a peace known only to those who stay… when the season ends. But in the other months, you need insider tips to find tourist-free corners. The hustle and bustle brings money, secures jobs—but also unrest, which accumulates in the alleyways like sand in the cracks.
When the last guest finally departs and the chairs are folded away, the place audibly breathes a sigh of relief. The silence is brief, but all the more intense for it. A quiet, golden magic that returns every year, filling the hearts of the coastal inhabitants as if someone had momentarily repainted the world.
Vera Fischer works with painting, particularly watercolor and gouache, and incorporates her culturally rich background in Moscow and her experiences in Germany into her works. Her technique powerfully oscillates between Art Nouveau, Surrealism, and Realism; she is guided by historical and literary influences and reinterprets various styles. Her art reflects existential themes such as change, courage, beauty, and humanity, inviting viewers emotionally and intellectually to engage in dialogue and hope for a more beautiful world.
