About this artwork
Cairn Holy is a piece that I created whilst visiting the Cairn Holy Cairns in Dumfries and Galloway (Scotland).
This was created en plein air using a mixture of natural handmade pigments, pastel and charcoal. I wanted to capture the essence of the landscape, whilst reacting to the site in my own individualistic way. Among the Neolithic stones are two primitive figures, which wouldn't look strange within a cave art setting; they belong within the… stones themselves, reacting to them.

"My artwork is often true to nature. I enjoy working from first-hand experience and reference. Careful research is undertaken before each project, including visits to museum collections and specific locations.
Whilst I aim for accurate representation, my work emanates a sense of spirit and place; there's always an element of personal reflection and response."
