About this artwork
There are many mythical symbols and references to favorite paintings, but the Phoenix Bird stands out. It symbolizes eternal rebirth – burning to ashes, enduring hardship and darkness, and rising again in light and spirit.
No matter how dark the paths of the human soul may become in its search for meaning, it always finds its way back to light, like a Phoenix purified from suffering and illusion. “The hour before dawn is the darkest,” as the proverb… says. This image appeared during the transition of December 21–22, when the longest night begins to turn toward light.
In many myths, the Phoenix also represents immortality: through destruction and renewal, it is reborn again and again, each time shining brighter than before. Its feather was believed to bring happiness and good fortune.
Veronika Sarma is a contemporary artist working at the intersection of abstraction, symbolism, and avant-garde influences. Her practice is rooted in the exploration of inner states and the subconscious, expressed through the emotional language of color and form.
She builds intuitive, rhythmic compositions in which gesture, color, and structure become instruments of transformation and inner freedom.
Drawing inspiration from the legacy of European avant-garde movements of the 1920s–1930s, the artist reinterprets their spirit through a contemporary visual language that bridges intuition and conceptual depth.
Since 2008, she has created more than 130 artworks and participated in over forty exhibitions across Europe and the Middle East, including Paris (art3f, Galerie Thuillier, Art Shopping – Carrousel du Louvre), London, Berlin, and Venice.
She has recently presented a solo exhibition in Paris (April–May) and is currently exhibiting in Geneva at The House of Art gallery.
