About this artwork
This work looks at the structures of brutalist architecture. More specifically it focusses on the shapes created by the light and shadows that fall upon these dominant concrete buildings. Using the shapes of light and shadow to divide the surface of the canvas (in this case paper). The artist strips down the colour and materials by using only black and white collaged painted paper. This process creates simple abstract bold shapes.

Vicky Dale
United Kingdom
« My work is devoid of people but is dominated by the traces they leave behind. In essence I am attracted to the man-made but not the man. »
Vicky Dale is a passionate British painter who has exhibited her work nationally. Focusing on the brutalist architecture of urban buildings and the textures of man-made environments, she composes paintings that are simultaneously devoid of people and centred on marks, traces and perspectives of humanity. Her manipulation of light, shape and shadow achieves a mesmerising, engrossing quality.
