About this artwork
This block of flats, in my home town Grimsby, is no more. I felt like I had to paint them when I found out they were going to be demolished. I chose a view of the flats with a new, oddly shaped, building in the foreground. I photographed the buildings in the winter and decided to keep the colours quite muted and cold.

Focusing on the brutalist architecture of urban buildings and the textures of man-made environments, she composes paintings that are simultaneously devoid of people and centred on marks, traces and perspectives of humanity. Her manipulation of light, shape and shadow achieves a mesmerising, engrossing quality.
