Standing under an overpass in San Francisco, the bright light bleeds in from the outside. You see the swoop of the huge metal structure leaving the canvas. All lights are on red and there are no cars. Vicky has revisited the same overpass 8 years on from her previous painting San Francisco Overpass, this time looking at it from a different angle, one that puts the light and shadow in the main frame, rather than the structure.

Vicky Dale is a passionate British painter who has exhibited her work nationally. Focusing on the brutalist architecture of urban buildings and the textures of man-made environments, she composes paintings that are simultaneously devoid of people and centred on marks, traces and perspectives of humanity. Her manipulation of light, shape and shadow achieves a mesmerising, engrossing quality.
