About this artwork
Towpath 1 is one of a series of paintings looking at the industrial buildings along the towpaths of London. The green corrugated building is cut off by the dark shape of a bridge in the foreground. The artist has used cardboard to emphasise the industrial nature of the surroundings.
This painting was exhibited at The Mall Galleries, London and the Guildford House Gallery as part of the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2019.

« My work is devoid of people but is dominated by the traces they leave behind. In essence I am attracted to the man-made but not the man. »
Vicky Dale is a passionate British painter who has exhibited her work nationally. Focusing on the brutalist architecture of urban buildings and the textures of man-made environments, she composes paintings that are simultaneously devoid of people and centred on marks, traces and perspectives of humanity. Her manipulation of light, shape and shadow achieves a mesmerising, engrossing quality.
