About this artwork
I usually use burlap as a guard cloth to ensure the stability of the finishing canvas in all my production. However, in this work, I combined it with the shine of glass paint. The highly textured canvas responds admirably well to the paint heavily loaded with natural resin that I used in this work. I make all my own paints. The sun glows in copper foil. The moon in silver foil gives off a faint, mystical light. I also wanted to work with complementary…
colors so that this canvas would not leave one indifferent.

Victor Abel, a Canadian artist living in Réunion Island, explores the relationship between material, gesture, and light.
