About this artwork
After the intense tropical cyclone Garance, I found the lagoon of western Reunion Island in a pitiful state. It was only after a few months that I was surprised to find sprouts of coral budding everywhere while diving among the fish. I am more than sensitive to these manifestations of the rebirth of nature. I draw inspiration from them in my pictorial work; bringing the invisible to life through the visible of sensitive matter. This is, moreover,…
the first of my creative axes, working on the imaginary. From the depths of abstract thought, which is in this case metaphorically associated with the bottom of the sea, I bring the idea or work to light on the surface so that it can be appreciated by all.

Victor Abel, a Canadian artist living in Réunion Island, explores the relationship between material, gesture, and light. His work, rooted in research on colors, shapes, and contrasts, is characterized in particular by the use of metal supports and gold leaf gilding.
