About this artwork
Exploring the stars remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me, a silent call from the depths of the universe. When I look through the telescope, I don't just observe: I go in search of invisible patterns, secret structures that the night seems to reveal to those who take the time to search. The brightest stars attract my attention, like Canopus, sparkling like a mysterious sign whose intimate meaning has yet to be revealed. Yet, in my… studio, far from the sky but inhabited by it, I can assign them a place, a value, an interpretation. It is certainly only one reading among others, but art has this unique power: it does not freeze things, it opens them. Thus, each star becomes a door, each constellation a possible story, and each canvas an attempt to broaden our inner as well as our cosmic horizons.
Victor Abel, a Canadian artist living in Réunion Island, explores the relationship between material, gesture, and light. His work, rooted in research on colors, shapes, and contrasts, is characterized in particular by the use of metal supports and gold leaf gilding. Through his works, he questions the viewer's perception, playing on the effects of depth and movement.
Trained in both traditional techniques and contemporary approaches, he makes his own paints from natural pigments and experiments with processes to bring to life compositions where abstraction dialogues with symbols.
Alongside his creative work, he designs site-specific performances and installations, placing his art in atypical spaces. He also invests in the transmission of knowledge by offering training courses and workshops aimed at different audiences, from young creators to established artists.
