About this artwork
"He was the light" In front of us is an abstract portrait of a man, a silhouette whose face is barely discernible, as if emerging through the fog of time. Her jet-dark hair forms a dramatic cloud, contrasting with her bleached, almost marble-like face. The texture on the skin conveys the feeling of memory erosion: as if the image itself has been erased, but something inside still resists disappearing.
The pose of the figure — slightly tense, collected… — indicates strength of character, perhaps an internal rebellion, but the face seems to be already disappearing into the void, losing its features, leaving only a trace.
This is not a portrait, but a phantom.
A personality that is remembered through layers of patina, as something vivid but elusive.
The name supports the motive of the disappearance: "there was" means that there was only a trace. And "light" is not only a metaphor for glory, but also the opposite of the darkness of oblivion.
Vita Daneva, an artist from Moldova, works diversely across painting, textiles, digital, and conceptual visual arts. She creates art using form, colours, and unexpected materials, transforming fragments of impressions into harmonized realities. Her intimate works echo her deep philosophical observations, perfused with messages about time, ecology, and human interconnectedness.
