"Khosrow and Shirin" is the title of a romantic poem by the Iranian poet Nizami Ganjavi (1141–1209).
It tells the love story of Khosrow Parviz, the great king of the Sassanid Empire, and Shirin, who later becomes the queen of Armenia.
The depicted scene shows Shirin bathing in a river when Khosrow sees her and instantly falls in love.
