The artist quotes the judgment of Paris from Greek mythology. With a golden apple, the exiled son of the king, Paris, who lives as a shepherd, is asked to decide which of the three goddesses is the most beautiful: Aphrodite, Athena or Hera.
Volker Mayr transfers this episode to a casting for the role of Venus in an imaginary performance: which of the three women embodies Venus most convincingly?
Two of them are Venus in famous artistic representations:… the ancient Venus of Miletus and the Venus of Botticelli, the third in the league, Marilyn Monroe has recently been revered as a modern Venus.
The artist has overpainted the art print of his 1984 work, which was sold in the year of its creation, with oil and changed it.
The paper work is titled, dated and signed on the front.

Volker Mayr is a German painter who initially started with figurative works under the influence of his grandfather, who was himself a painter. Today, his abstract oil paintings with pasty paint application on white primed canvas inspire his collectors. His compositions have a strong luminosity, which can be rediscovered again and again depending on the lighting situation. Similar to a composer with music, he arranges the colors on the canvas to create a harmonious overall concept.
