About this artwork
This work explores contrast — in colour, gesture, and emotion — through an intuitive and expressive approach to painting. I bring together opposing tones and sweeping marks to create tension, movement, and visual rhythm.
Layered surfaces and bold colour relationships reflect the balance between control and spontaneity in my process, while the collision of acidic brights with muted tones suggests the coexistence of opposites. This shift toward a… looser, more instinctive way of working allows my paintings to become spaces of energy and escape, grounded in emotional experience.
Wendy Grace holds an Honours degree in Painting from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. An accomplished Australian artist renowned for her vibrant abstract compositions, command of colour and instinctive grasp of spatial relationships. Her artworks are deeply influenced by nature and urban dynamics, as she seeks to push the boundaries of her work to find new ways to convey meaning and emotion. She says of Abstract painting that, “she is able to use everyday experiences and encounters with people and the environment in her work, to create a space to explore pathways to the imaginary,” offering the viewer a dynamic interplay of colour and pattern.
