About this artwork
Spoken Words shows a diversity of painted patterns that layer ribbons and squirreling of lines, together with irregular painted shapes of opaque colours that sit and shift offering the viewer a visual journey that mimics the frenetic thought process that can transpire in verbal communications. Diverse opposites placed together intertwine on polyester that is mounted on canvas. A painting that creates a tension that overflows to the viewer and traces… the uncomfortable feeling of being lost in translation as opposed to the clear thinking, understood calm state of mind.
Wendy Grace holds an Honours degree in Painting from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. An accomplished Australian artist renowned for her vibrant abstract compositions, command of colour and instinctive grasp of spatial relationships. Her artworks are deeply influenced by nature and urban dynamics, as she seeks to push the boundaries of her work to find new ways to convey meaning and emotion. She says of Abstract painting that, “she is able to use everyday experiences and encounters with people and the environment in her work, to create a space to explore pathways to the imaginary,” offering the viewer a dynamic interplay of colour and pattern.
