About this artwork
In Elation, I sought to capture the exhilarating moment when light breaks through and transforms the landscape into something almost magical. Using layers of richly textured paint, I built the surface intuitively with palette knives and expressive mark-making, allowing colour and texture to interact freely across the canvas.
Deep charcoal, earthy bronze and muted grey tones create a dramatic backdrop for vibrant bursts of crimson, coral and fiery… orange. A glowing light radiates from the horizon, illuminating the wildflowers below and creating a striking contrast between shadow and brilliance. The textured surface catches and reflects light, revealing new nuances and details from every angle.
As I painted, I was inspired by the powerful emotions that arise when beauty appears unexpectedly—a feeling of upliftment, freedom and wonder. This work celebrates those fleeting moments that ignite the spirit and remind us to embrace joy wholeheartedly.

The process is intuitive and material-led, allowing the surface to evolve gradually, often revealing traces of erosion, softness, and quiet transformation.
Rather than depicting specific locations, these works reflect an internal geography—where memory dissolves into light, and form emerges through absence as much as presence.
Each piece is part of an ongoing exploration of how we hold and experience fleeting moments: through atmosphere, through texture, and through the shifting language of the surface.
