About this artwork
This painting comes from a flooded field near Eythrope, between Stone and Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire. After days of heavy rain the land had turned into a shallow stretch of water, and the familiar countryside looked briefly transformed. The light was soft and warm that evening, settling gently across the waterlogged ground.
I kept the marks minimal and the palette restrained to hold that sense of stillness, letting the reflections do most… of the work. It is a pared-back landscape shaped more by mood than detail, painted to follow the quiet meeting of light and water as the day came to an end.
