About this artwork
I find inspiration in the vibrant colors and rich traditions of the Caribbean, which deeply connect me to my cultural heritage. Growing up, I was shaped by moments like stargazing during power outages and my love for 90s TV, anime, and pop culture. My work reflects this dynamic blend of bridging past traditions with modern influences like technology, astronomy, and fashion. I explore the balance between the personal and collective, tradition and… innovation, always celebrating the resilience and stories that define selfhood and cultural expression.
Yermine Richardson is an exciting painter and photographer based in Spain who has exhibited his work in the Dominican Republic. He is primarily inspired and motivated by his experience growing up in the Caribbean, where he used to play in the darkness and look up at the surreal sky full of stars. His polished, glittering compositions are thus celebrations of people finding light even in darkness, and also serve to pay tribute to the beauty of the Caribbean and its vastness of space, as well as the beauty of black people and Richardson's own mother.
"Yermine's picture is fantastic. I love it and it makes my living room shine in new splendor."
