About this artwork
every route finds its flow.
my artwork is deeply rooted in the traditional semiotics of Caribbean heritage, notably womanhood, fashion, spiritualism, and cosmology, yet his influences extend far beyond his place of origin. Growing up during the 1990s, television served as my window to the wider world, and I was inspired by the pop culture references, from images of the Hubble telescope and ancient Egyptians to Mexican telenovelas, anime, fashion… commercials, and music television. This eclectic mix of inspirations informs my distinct visual style, imbuing caribbean technique with a contemporary sensibility that boldly merges tradition and identity in visually provocative ways.
Yermine Richardson is an exciting painter and photographer based in Spain who has exhibited his work in the Dominican Republic. He is primarily inspired and motivated by his experience growing up in the Caribbean, where he used to play in the darkness and look up at the surreal sky full of stars. His polished, glittering compositions are thus celebrations of people finding light even in darkness, and also serve to pay tribute to the beauty of the Caribbean and its vastness of space, as well as the beauty of black people and Richardson's own mother.
