A curation by Juliana Angulo, Art Historian, Curator, and Advisor at FAREX & Singulart - What stories lie behind a pair of hands? Can hands speak louder than words? This curation renders hommage to this single body part that once isolated and highlighted, becomes the protagonist itself. This shift in perception opens parallel meanings and layers of symbolism. Fragmented fingers, expressive touches, powerful fists, dynamic grips, and ironic manoeuvers are among the motions that appear throughout these images. When isolated, cropped, zoomed-in, or recontextualized, hands become much more than human anatomy, they possess a voice of their own. They become surreal or almost abstracted and can convey existential notions of power, desire, frustration, old age, or introspection. Through a variety of mediums and styles, these images take us on a journey where hands become metaphors of life and contemporary society. By their pure presence, these artworks demonstrate with creativity the powerful language of hands.
