About this artwork
WAVELENGTH explored the absence and presence of movement from two perspectives: active stillness as opposed to passive immobility and involuntary pulsations/waves as opposed to deliberate displacements. Thematically, the series dealt with coded gestures, enigmatic messages and missed signals and the ambiguity / confusion they inevitably provoke.
The combative fists of the wounded man send an offensive message while their positioning suggests that… he is on the defensive. So many daily messages embody ambiguous intentions that guarantee that messages are often misread. Perfect clarity and understanding are rare occurances.
