About this artwork
WAVELENGTH explored the absence and presence of movement from two perspectives: active stillness as opposed to passive immobility and involuntary pulsations/waves as opposed to deliberate displacements. Thematically, the series dealt with coded gestures, enigmatic messages and missed signals and the ambiguity / confusion they inevitably provoke.
Different fragments of different images of the same person taken seconds apart. Depending on what we… see when we are participating in the real moment, we may receive a different message. When juxtaposed in a single image representing the evolving situation, the potential for some form of messaging confusion becomes evident in the absence of audio.

Navigating multiple mediums - moving from postgraduate studies in economic theory to a career as an internationally lauded photographer, conceptual new media artist and composer, canadian R. Scott MacLeay's career is richly varied.
